Dr. Whitney Johnson

Dr. Whitney Johnson has served in education since 2018. She began her career at Odom Elementary School in her hometown of Moultrie, Georgia, as a fourth-grade teacher before joining DoWEA in 2019. She taught fourth-grade at Humphreys Central Elementary School and then moved to teach sixth grade math and led the Phase One implementation of Advanced Academic Programs and Services at Humphreys Middle School in South Korea. She has held leadership positions like teacher leader, chair of the Inquiry Based Learning Team, and teacher representative for PTSO and the School Advisory Committee.

Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Walden University. She has certifications in elementary education, compensatory, middle school, and high school mathematics, and gifted education.

Dr. Johnson believes that building strong relationships with teachers, families, and the community is pivotal to academic achievement for students. She values communicative collaboration with stakeholders through sharing ideas and support in pursuit of student success. She holds that supporting the whole student through high standards, rigorous curriculum, and socio-emotional support, while providing inquiry-based opportunities for critical and creative thinking, cultivates grit, perseverance, and encourages our students to become lifelong learners.

Dr. Johnson has five daughters and in her off-duty time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, and skiing.
